PTIN & EFIN ASSISTANCE
Your Path to Hassle-Free Tax Compliance with 123 Tax Prep
Starting a tax preparation business requires proper credentials to ensure compliance and build trust with your clients. Two essential requirements for every professional tax preparer are the Preparer’s Tax Identification Number (PTIN) and the Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN). Here’s what you need to know:
Preparer’s Tax Identification Number (PTIN)
A PTIN is mandatory for anyone who prepares or assists in preparing U.S. federal tax returns for compensation. You can easily apply for your PTIN online at irs.gov for an annual fee of $50. Remember to renew your PTIN each year after October 15th to maintain your eligibility as a paid tax preparer. At 123 Tax Prep, all partners must obtain and keep a valid PTIN.
Please Note:
If your PTIN is currently under IRS investigation or associated with fraudulent activities, 123 Tax Prep cannot enter into partnership or business with you.

Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN)
An EFIN is a unique six-digit number issued by the IRS to tax professionals and businesses participating in the IRS e-file program. Obtaining an EFIN is free, but the process includes a comprehensive suitability check, fingerprinting, and a review of your criminal and tax debt history. Without an EFIN, you are not permitted to electronically file tax returns or participate in e-file activities.
